Grandpa's Pumpkin Party

Every year Grandpa Dearden has a pumpkin patch for the grandkids. The last few years Grandpa gave the pumpkins to the kids and they took them home to decorate. This year Grandma Dearden scheduled a pumpkin decorating party. First things first, the kids chose their pumpkins that they would decorate.
Then they went to work. Jami is putting some finishing touches on the witches hat.
Even the grown-ups got in on the fun. I'm not sure who had more fun, the grandkids or the grown kids.
Look out Jami has a carving tool. She did a really good job. Mom thought she would help out with a steak knife and found out it wasn't necessary, Jami had done a through job. She's pretty independent.
Cole had to poke a lot of little holes to mark the pattern for his pumpkin. Then the trick is remembering which part gets cut out and which part stays. We had a little mix up on the eyes, but caught it in time save the decoration.
One of Grandpa's pumpkins was bigger than the rest. Grandpa wanted to be fair, so before the kids got to the party Grandpa chose a number and taped it to the pumpkin. He then covered the pumpkin and had the kids draw numbers out of a hat to see which lucky grandkid would get the grand pumpkin.
The unveiling............Drum Roll please.....................................and the winner is..............................
The one and only grandson.................Cole Combe!
Jami says these pumpkins belong to cousins Ashley and Avery, I can't remember. That's Avery in the background so I'll bet Jami's right. (Don't let her know that though, she thinks she's always right.)

Cole & Jami with their finished products. They turned out pretty awesome. Jami's is an original freehand design by none other than Jami Lee Combe. Cole's is from a pattern that claimed to be"easy". Maybe easy for Edward Scissorhands, like I said we had trouble with the eyes, but it turned out awesome.
The full Jack-o-lantern effect. It's a little blurry but it's the photo that turned out the best.
The grandkids had a great time and can't wait until they get to do it again.

Popcorn Sales

Cole is scheduled to attend the 2010 National Scout Jamboree, in Fort AP Hill. So to help earn money for the trip the scouts have been selling popcorn. For 2 Saturdays Cole & Mom sat outside the doors at the Layton Sams Club, from 1:00-5:00, soliciting popcorn to the customers of Sams. The first that we went was in September, and the boys were sweating to death. Last Saturday, we about froze. Luckily the scoutmaster was prepared, like any good scout would be, he brought hot water and chocolate mix. The scouts were able to make a pretty good profit. We are finished with the popcorn sales for this year and I can't wait to find out what the next fundraiser is!

Surfin' USA at FlowRider

Well, these pictures are in the exact opposite order of how I had planned. Oh well, I will learn. I bet if I posted more often then I would remember how to do it. Cole was invited to a friends birthday party at FlowRider. We rushed from the popcorn sales event to the party. I stayed a few minutes so that I could watch and snap a few photos. When the boys finished at FlowRider they went to the birthday boys house and continued swimming. I am amazed that Cole came home willingly, that party had everything, good friends, video arcade games, hot tub, sauna, and swimming pool.
After I had taken a couple of pictures of the boys attempting to do the surf thing, I turned around and found Jami posing in a corner. I guess she thought that she was photo worthy even if she wasn't surfing. Here's Landon doing pretty good at the moment. This kid never ever ceases to amaze me!!! I know this is not easy to do but Landon did not give up. Once or twice I told him to get back out there so I could take pictures to show his mom, and he did.
Cole's turn to go for it. Of course Cole says that after I left he got pretty good at it. I do believe him. I think this is not as easy as it looks.
Cole ready for take-off!!!
